Our Progress

Hey Tent Peg Followers,

Summer is flying by and we hope you are well!! Lately, we have been rehearsing with the cast at AP's apartment! Our design interns have also been working away on the costumes at the other AR's apartment. We have gathered all of our cast member's sizes and assigned pieces to our interns. I crashed one of the design team meetings two Tuesdays ago and got a glimpse at their creativity.

All I will say is that Michelle is great with the glue gun and works meticulously on piecing together cones made out of recyled cardboard(check out twitpics below), Whitney is obsessively collecting lip cut outs from Fashion magazines, and Arielle (R) is really great at laminating! Oh and Arielle (R) makes amazing cheese sandwiches. And someone may or may not be wearing sunglasses made out of recyled lady shoe insoles!!!! Get excited, because we are!!!

The Progress of Design

Hello online universe, this is Arielle Rothbard, Director of Art & Design at TPTP checking in. Just wanted to show you some of the fruit of our design team's labor. The image below is part of what came out of our first meeting to actually sit down and start fabricating details on the cast's ensembles. We met in Washington Square Park with our materials in hand, ready to start working. In the future, if you'd like to drop by while we work on costumes, we might even post on our Twitter which public space we'll be at!

I am excited to say that concepts for all the costumes are being nailed down this week, and techniques are underway. We are going to be whipping up some incredible stuff between the six or seven of us who will meet weekly this summer in preparation for ConcealHer's debut in October. I am so happy with the group that's come together for both cast & crew of this production.

Keep checking in & reading what we're up to. Spread the word to your friends about what we're doing. This is going to be one of the most unique performances in New York City this fall!

Collecting Materials

Tent Peg Theater has begun collecting beauty materials to design our costumes & set with! Hitting up local salons, art/craft, perfume, & soap stores, we have started a great collection. On 6/8, a group of us Tent Peggers started at 14th street and 6th avenue and walked on 6th and 7th avenues to 42nd street to see what we could find!! We collected some cardboard, magazines, a hairspray bottle, a cool mens hairbrush thing, a nail polish holder, and other neat stuff.

Most of all, we recognized the enthusiasm from our local salons to pitch in any recycled or unused products! We grabbed their cards and will be going back  to these local places to make pick ups at times that are convenient for them. We're pumped and looking forward to our next adventure tonight in Washington Square Park. We'll be in Washington Square Park from 6-8 near the arch sorting magazines and weaving together paper. You'll see!! Come check it all out!!!!

XOXO, Liz & Tent Peg Crew

What's Happening @ Tent Peg Theater

Tent Peg Theater Productions is a not for profit theater company. We are committed to making performance art out of recycled, re-purposed, and re-imagined materials.

We seek to create innovative theater that will challenge audiences to engage in dialogue on social issues and to critically examine the effects of consumerism and materialism on our communities.

Tent Peg Productions is named after Yael, a woman in the ancient Hebrew Scriptures, who, when she lacked a traditional weapon, killed her assaulter with the peg of her own tent.

We believe that within Manhattan, our city, we already possess all of the resources we need to create dynamic stages. Our goal is to re-imagine our own "tent pegs" into the weapons we need for social change through theater and performance art.

The costumes and set of "ConcealHer" will be entirely made out of recycled products with an emphasis on re-using beauty products. If you would like to get involved with our company by collecting used beauty products to be up-cycled, shoot us an email. We would be thrilled to arrange a product pick-up time with you.
